If the Lincoln Towncar doesn’t hold the all time record for car fornication, thenI don’t know what does. Think of all the proms, weddings, taxis, and horny 1990’s businessmen!. . . Actually don’t. Today on the Car Truth Report, we delve into what made the Lincoln Towncar loved bymillions, and why you should love it too!The Lincoln Towncar, which ran from 1981 to 2011, and sold over a million units, was inour opinion, the last REAL luxury car that Lincoln ever made. It may not seem like anything special today, but when you look at what the average interiorof a car was like in the 1990’s, it is no surprise that the Town Car was the most usedlimousine chassis of its time. I still remember the first time that I got to ride in the back of my friends’ dadsregular length Towncar. Even though I was only 9 or 10, and knew very little about cars at that time, I stillknew it was special. The TownCar is something that when you try to explain it in the usual way – with stats- it doesn’t really sound that great. Even equipped with a V8 – usually a sign of performance – the Lincoln Towncar usuallymade right around 200 horsepower. Though one could be inclined to think that the TownCar’s track record for going manyhundreds of thousands of miles may attributed to having such a under-strung engine. Hearing of Towncars, or it’s two cousins the Grand Marquis, and Crown Vic with over500,000, or even a million miles on them is not that uncommon. Also given the average age of someone who currently drives one of these luxury bargesis about 94, I say the less power the better. Rattling off a bunch of numbers isn’t going to get to the nectar, the essence, of whywe here at the Car Truth Report really love the Lincoln Towncar. The real reason TownCar is truly great, is because it was built with a single, uncompromisingmission, comfort. Modern “luxury” cars are built with a different ethos: half comfort, and halfperformance. A perfect example of this was even seen in the Lincoln line-up with the introductionof the much sportier, closet jaguar,“ Lincoln LS in 1999. And if you are a fan of the Lincoln LS, or just cool car knowledge in general, be sureto subscribe to our channel for future videos. You see, modern seats squeeze you with lumbar support and yadda yadda yadda, but the Towncar’sseats envelope you, like an expensive cushy recliner. Modern “luxury” cars suspensions are tuned for cornering on racetracks like thenurburgring, while the TownCar’s air ride suspension, when it wasn’t broken, was clearlydesigned with straight lines, and potholes in mind. There is no reason to be accelerating or turning fast when you are in a Lincoln Towncar, you will get there when you get there. And if you have somehow made it to this point in your life, without riding in or drivinga towncar, then we here at the Car Truth Report would highly recommend it, so at the veryleast you can see what luxury used to be like, for better or for worse. (droning music)- Hi there. (speaking in foreign language)This is the sixth runningof the world’s greatest drag race. This year, the competition is tougher than ever, however, I think I’m driving the winner. This is the all new Acura NSX. And in addition to all-wheel drive, I’ve got three, count them one, two, three electric motors. What’s good about an electric motor in a drag race?Instant torque. The second I hit the gas pedal, I get all that torqueat zero RPM. And then the high horsepower gasoline engine takes over. Plus, I’ve got a quick shifting dual clutch transmission. However, there are 11 other cars that thinkthey have a shot at crossing that finish line first. Let’s meet the competition. Wearing a creamsicle inspired paint job,it’s the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S with its funny shifter. There’s the impressive-handling Chevy Camaro 1LE. There’s an eye-searing yellow Shelby Mustang GT350R. Oh, the great looking water-injected BMW M4 GTS. The track day champ, the Dodge Viper ACR. This has to be the best looking Porsche of all time,a Miami blue Carrera S. Here’s the most powerful Jaguar of all time, the F-Type SVR. The return of the Jewish racing gold AMG GTS. Godzilla makes another appearance. There’s the impressively powerful and ridiculously lightMcLaren 570S. And here’s the teutonic stud, the Audi R8 V10 Plus. And none of them stand a chance. (engines revving)This is the world’s greatest drag race six. – What Johnny doesn’t know is that I’ve gone to the officeand stolen his long term Dodge Charger Hellcat. I’m going to use it in the race. – Sup bro?- Hey, Johnny. What are you driving?- NSX. – Cool. – Yeah, you?(coughing) – Hellcat. – What?(coughing) – Hellcat. – My Hellcat? That’s not part of best driver’s car. – It has more horsepower and torquethan anything here, though. – That’s a good point. The only problem is that we got 12 guys dressed like thisand 13 cars. So I suggest we just cut the slowest one here, that being your Aston Martin. Why are you smiling? – Okay. – I just put tires on the Hellcat. I’d like two weeks out of them, okay?- Two minutes, maybe. (engine revving)Okay, so the 707 horsepower Hellcatmight have the most power here, but it’s a big heavy sedan. There’s another car with almost as much horsepower, the Viper ACR. It has just 650 horsepower, but it weighs 1,151 fewer pounds. With a manual transmission, long gearing, and really sticky tires, the Viper is a tricky carto launch properly. Get it right and you’re in store for a 3. 3 second runto 60 miles an hour. However, at higher speeds, that big wingcreates lot of drag, and that slows it down. The McLaren doesn’t have to deal with that, and thanks to its computer-controlled launch control,it’s a whole lot easier to get off the line. Unfortunately, it gives up a hundred horsepowerto the Viper. Then again, the 570S is the lightest car here, and then there’s the Audi. The R8 is 500 pounds heavier than the McLaren, but it has all-wheel drive to rocket off the line. Plus, it’s naturally aspirated V10 screams to 9000 RPM,and it’s dual clutch is one of the quickest shiftingtransmissions on the planet. Will that be enough to edge out the rest of thesehorsepower-riddled cars?Hang on and find out. (dramatic bass music)(engines revving)Alright, there’s nothing really for me to do. Just sit in my air conditioned seat, put it in drive, and fight wheel spin the entire way down the runway, because this is a big stupid sedan with 707 horsepower. – He stands no chance in that Hellcat against this, the NSX. And have I mentioned how easy it is to launch this Acura?Super easy. – Alright, five, four, three, two. (engines revving)(laughing)(engines humming)- I kicked the stuffing out of Jason in the Hellcat. – 707 horsepower and I finished in the back of the pack. – Vietnamese coffee, who knew?- [Jason] It’s all over pretty quicklywhen you have cars this fast. The NSX’s electric motors gave it a jump off the line, but the Audi blows right by on its wayto a 2. 6 second zero to 60. And the Audi stays in the lead the whole way, crossing the quarter mile marker after just 10. 6 seconds. If we’d kept going, the R8 would get passed by the McLaren, which is less than a car length behind, but traveling almost two miles an hour quicker. 101 feet and 6/10 behind the Audi is Godzilla itself, the Nissan GTR, which crosses the line just 16 feetbefore Johnny and his NSX. That’s right, Johnny, hope you’re enjoying fourth place. Next up, the Mercedes AMG GTS, followed closelyby the Jaguar F-Type SVR. Oh, but if you think the Viper’s up next, you’re wrong. It’s that insanely overachieving Porsche 911pulling an 11. 5 at a 120 miles an hour. The Viper is 12 feet behind the Porsche. Then 4/10 of a second later, here I comein a big heavy Hellcat, which didn’t win,but it did spin its tires long enoughto beat the M4 GTS by two car lengths. The Mustang Shelby GT350R was right behind the Bimmer, and then in dead last place, is the Chevy Camaro SS 1LE. That’s right, the slowest car in this group runs a 12. 4at 114. 2 miles an hour, or in other words, zero to jail in 10 seconds or less. It’s a good thing we’re on a closed course. (engines humming)Can you guys see me?’Cause it feels like I have my back to the camera. You okay?- You should have your back to the camera at first. – Okay. – Yeah, it’s okay. – Okay. – [Johnny] That’s Tony’s new technique, back to the camera. – [Camera Man] Back to camera, is it?- Put your back to camera— [Johnny] You’re doing a lot of stuffwith like people’s backs and cameras lately. – I love it. – Step to your left, Jason. – [Johnny] Really?- We all set guys? – Ah, this breeze. – [Camera Man] And then he turns around, right? He’s looking away? He’s looking away and turns to us?Perfect do it again. – [Jason] That was a little weird. – [Camera Man] Why was that weird?- My laugh was a little weird. – There was a couple flubs. – [Camera Man] One more time? Not perfect, do it again. – Yep, imperfect. – Imperfect. – Just pretend it was perfect. – [Camera Man] What do you want to have your last line be?You say nevermind, love you. – This is the world’s greatest drag race six.
The first gas-powered car sped through the streets of Mannheim, Germany at a blistering10 mph. Today, we can go a LOT faster… so what’s changed?Hey motorheads, Trace here for DNews. Over the last 130ish years, car speed has comea long way. As of February 2016, the fastest car you can buy is the Bugatti Chiron, whichis limited to 261 miles per hour. (420 km/h). But why is that car faster than yours? Howdid we figure out how to make cars go faster?First of all, and it’s probably obvious, but the major reason cars today can move so fast,is because engines have gotten a lot more powerful in the last 130 years. The 1908 FordModel T had only 22 horsepower and a top speed of 45 miles per hour (70 km/h). But today,a base Honda Accord can easily clear 100 mph (160kp/h) with almost 200 horsepower!Modern cars can pull more power from highly refined petroleum. Today’s more powerful cars, can push more mass, more easily. But it’s not that car engines have gotten more efficient, the Model T only got 3 miles per gallon less than the average car today! Only 14 to 30percent of the power from gasoline combustion is used to pull the car forward; most of theenergy is lost to heat and friction. So, to give cars more horsepower engineers have eitheradded more engine, or reduced weight… or BOTH. It all comes down to the Power to Weightratio. That super-fast Bugatti Chiron has 1,500 horsepower, but needs TWO V8 engines to get that — that’sa lot of weight. So, to make the car go fast, they needed to make it lighter. The powerto weight ratio, is a simple formula… divide Weight by Power. Lemme give you an example or three… A 1200 pound Model T, has 22 horsepower. It’s weightto power ratio is 54. 5 pounds for every horsepower. That’s not great. A 3000 pound 2016 Priushas 121 horsepower so has a better ratio of 24. 8 pounds for every 1 horsepower! Whilethe new car does have more power in a heavier vehicle it is a balance. By comparison, theChiron weighs in at 4,400 pounds with 1500 hp: for a ratio of 2. 9. 2. 9 pounds per horsepower. That. Is. Crazy. Obviously, it’s way fast. If engineers can get a low weight-to-power ratio, they’ll have a faster car. But to MAKEa car with a heavy engine have less weight ain’t easy. Ford mixed the steel on ModelTs with the element Vanadium to try and make it lighter; engineers still do stuff likethat today. The Prius uses aluminum, plastics, and special high-tensile, high-strength steels. The Chiron, however, was built with ultra-lightweight materials like titanium and carbon fiber, keeping the weight down even further and making for an even lower ratio! Of course, the Chironis 100 times more expensive than a Prius, partly due to that lightweight material, sothere’s that. Tweaks like these are the reason horsepower has increased 80 percent from 1980 to 2004…but even then, we can only do so much. If you have a big engine, and a light car, youcan still only make it go so fast. And the faster you go, the more air friction willstart to affect top speed. For this reason, the car that holds the fastest land speedrecord in the world — 763. 035 mph (1227. 985 km/h) — looks NOTHING like a Chiron, or evena car. It looks like a jet, because jets are perfect for minimizing drag from air. But basically, for every pound added either more power has to be coaxed from the engine,or a bigger engine has to be built. The power-to-weight ratio is a delicate balance even for the muscliestof cars. Without understanding it, we’d never have made cars go fast. Sponsor? It also takes a lot of effort to keep yourcar clean. Techron by Chevron’s patented Precision Clean Technology targets and removesdeposits left by lower tier gasolines. It bonds with and breaks apart carbon deposits, more effectively than other additive technologies. Techron gets into the deepest parts of theengine, where the most destructive deposits built up, and sweeps them away. No matter how fast we can make cars go, though, there will always be speed limits holdingus back. How we decide speed limits isn’t arbitrary to get me pulled over every otherweek. . . in fact, there’s a ton of research on it! I checked! Take a pitstop and watchhere. What’s your favorite speedy car? I always loved the Lotus, any of them. They’re so curvy!Tell me the car you had on the poster hanging in your childhood bedroom. . . and subscribefor more dnews, tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day…
Ferrari 812 Superfast Passes Cars at 200 mph on Autobahn
The Ferrari 812 Superfast acts as the V12 successor to the F12berlinetta and it’s better in almost every way. It’s 6.5-liter V12 engine pumps out serious power that’s rated at 789 horsepower and 529 lb-ft of torque. Ferrari notes that it’s “the most powerful and fastest Ferrari in the marque’s history.”
rev up your engines!Porsche’s they’re beautiful cars, they have great handling and quickacceleration, and today I’m going to tell you why you should never buy one, a customer of minejust purchased this one as a toy, he paid about $7000 for it, it’s only got68 thousand miles on it and it looks beautiful, but somebody paid over fiftythousand dollars for this car when it was brand new, so why oh why did it lose 43thousand dollars of its 50 thousand dollar value, when it still looks so goodand still runs decently, and here comes the answer, it’s got a mid-engine whichis great for handling, but horrible for repair, as you can see in this picturethe engine is way up front here in the middle, it’s very hard to work on, youcan’t even see it without taking a body off, so in an actual car that’s allhidden way down in here, say something like a water pump goes out and when welook under the car, needless to say there’s not too much working room upthere in the engine, this thing is really something to work on when you have anengine problem, well in a normal car with the engine in the front, I can do mostwater pumps in an hour or so, might cost you two or three hundred bucks, but on thisthing, just changing out a water pump is going to cost you well over a thousanddollars, and literally that’s just the tip of the iceberg, I had a customer with a911 Porsche, it needed two catalytic converters, and the bill would have beenover seventy four hundred dollars to replace them, he just got rid of the carinstead, now yes they aren’t really fun cars to drive and my customer was smart, hegot a standard transmission, because they’re pretty reliable but theautomatics, they’re very unreliable as they age and cost a fortune to rebuildand while they do corner and drive quite well, they actually have a very roughride, especially with these low profile tires, every time I get one and I’m doneroad testing it, I asked my wife if she wants to go for a ride, she says nothanks I hate those things they ride like go-karts, now if your looking forstyle, hey this might be for you, a lot of people say they’re beautiful lawnornaments, now Janis Joplin sang about how all her friends drove Porsches, butreally, following Janis Joplin’s lifestyle may not be sucha smart choice, and remember if you’ve got any car questions just visit theScotty Kilmer channel,so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos, remember toring that Bell!
