2017 McLaren 570GT Review

Believe it or not, this isn’t the fastest version of McLaren’s 570 supercar…It isn’t the most agile Nor is it the loudest…But if it’s luggage space you’re after, well this model takes the cake. In their own words, this McLaren’s very first everyday supercar…It’s called the 570GT. . It’s slower, heavier and tens of thousands of dollars more expensive than the sporty570S on which it is based. Make sense?Give it time, it just might. . As its name suggests, this is McLaren’s first real attempt at a Grand Tourer…The 570GT is designed to take on Porsche’s 911 Turbo and other ‘everyday’ machineslike the Audi R8 V10 Plus…It is priced at $406,800 (plus on-road costs), making it considerably more expensive thanthose immediate rivals and nearly $30,000 more than the sportier 570S. Upon first inspection it’s hard to believe this is a grand tourer. These awkward dihedral doors remain, as does the carbon fibre monococque chassis…And while McLaren has made some revisions inside, including its very first vanity mirror, there is no denying the GT’s supercar DNA. Instead, it is further back that the marketing rhetoric starts to materialise. Boasting a re-worked – and, dare we say more attractive rear – the 570GT featuresa rear hatch that opens to one side, allowing you to load its new leather-lined 220 litreboot from the kerb. Sitting above the engine, the so-called touring deck is insulated, so it won’t cook thecontents of your bags. It is matched by a 130-litre frunk at the opposite end. More than that though, McLaren has made some serious under the skin revisions that reallyhelp explain the GT positioning. For one the suspension has been softened – 15 per cent at the front and 10 per cent of therear. The standard exhaust is a little quieiter, the S’ carbon ceramic brakes have been replacedby normal road units and the steering brings a 2 per cent change in ratio. With all the handling and engine settings set to docile, the GT is an impressively quietand well-mannered machine. It happily schleps around, the quick-witted seven-speed dual clutch offering well-timedand seamless shifts…The steering is well-weighted, and the cabin is quiet with excellent bump absorption traits. One thing that hasn’t changed is the engine – it’s the same 3. 8-litre twin-turbo V8– boasting 419kW and 600Nm…Little bit of lag in the lower reaches, but once the turbos spool up, it is all forwardprogress. 0-100km in 3. 4 seconds. For the record, that’s 0. 3 seconds shy of the 570’s acceleration time…And while the GT is hardly sluggish, it’s not the only area where it cannot match it’ssportier sibling. In isolation, you wouldn’t want anymore power. . But I think for me it is missing something, there’s not the same aural excitement, andfor me it does take away from the experience. Another clear omission is the S’ carbon ceramic brakes. The GT’s brakes just cannot emulate the same stopping power, and are poorly modulatedthrough the pedal When the road gets rough, yes you know you’rein a supercar. There’s still a raw edge to the steering, particularly the feedback from the road. Even so, the 570GT makes a strong case within the McLaren fold, and as supercars go, isone of the more liveable offerings from the British manufacturer. So the comparison here probably isn’t between which McLaren you’d pick but whether you’dchoose this over a 911 Turbo. It’s from the 911 Turbo, which is better dynamically and is still, somehow, easierto live with. But in saying that the McLaren is distinctive and it is different, and for many buyers, that makes more than enough sense all on its own.

2017 AutoGuide.com Car of the Year Winner – Part 7 of 7

It has been an exciting year for new cars, which makes our job of pickinga car of the year a little bit more difficult. You know, last year it was pretty much a unanimous decision with the Honda Civic. But, this year our editors were debating for a really long time over which one ofthese cars would get our top honors. And why shouldn’t it take copious amounts of deliberation? They’re all such incredibly strong products. Parked behind us are six of the most important new modelscoming out for 2017. But only one of them can be our Car of the Year winner. So starting at the bottom and working up, we begin with the Chevy Cruze. Some of us were fighting over this car because it had Wi-Fiand standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and we wanted to stream our Spice Girls throwbackswithout eating up our data plans. Was that just me?Maybe, but besides having 4G LTE connectivitythe Cruze also has a great infotainment system, and great value in a base model, but as soon as you add in any optionsthe price becomes quite inflated and it diminishes the car’s value. A fact that isn’t helped by this cheap interior. Following in the Cruze’s tire tracksis Kia’s all-new Optima, which won us over by looking and feelingfar more upscale than many of its competitors. It’s an excellent all-around car with a lovely interior and comfortable ride,it doesn’t drive particularly well, and its 2. 0L turbocharged engine is rather noisy. The Hyundai Elantra is trying to win people over byoffering a huge amount of luxury car features in a compact car. As a package, it’s fantastic, and it offers a lot of value. But perhaps it doesn’t push the boundaries enough to set a new standard, which is something we’re always looking for. Next up, the BMW M2 a car that everybody lovedbecause it’s absolutely fantastic to drive. Besides sounding great and looking mature, yet still aggressive, the M2 struck a great balance between performance and everyday drivability. However, we do wish the steering was a bit more communicativeand that the infotainment system were better, but our editors were absolutely smitten with this balanced, focused coupe, and ended up fighting over the keys quite a lot. The Volkswagen Golf Alltrack was also a top contender for the award this year, and we found it its driving dynamics a lot better than both the Cruze and the Optima. After we took it on a trail, we came away even more impressedby its abilities off-road. The price is also very decent and besidesa smooth and powerful engine, and classy interior, the Alltrack just feels like a regular Golf which is pretty remarkable. And that brings us to the Focus RS. During testing we fell in love with this car because it’s an old dogthat has learned some amazing new tricks. You know, Ford has taken a pretty average compact vehicle at this point, and transformed it into an absolutely remarkable machine. One that drivers would be proud to own. And not only is it fun and engaging to drivebut it’s also easy to drive, whether you’re blasting down canyon roadsor just commuting to work, it just feels so natural. And one of the other things that really impressed us was its base priceof around $36,000, which makes it a bargain by performance standards. Add that in with the fact that it’s just so well-rounded,And it really became an easy pick for AutoGuide. com’s Car of the Year. Songs are much more fun when you meow them. ♪Meow, meow, meow, meow. . . ♪Meow, meow, meow, meow. . . Jaguar C-X75 Hybrid Supercar

Following the highly successful introduction of the C-X75 supercar to the media for test evaluationin June 2013, Jaguar is releasing a behind-the-scenes film of the car’s development: C-X75 — Ahybrid supercar prototype without equal. The film features contributions from the car’s lead programme engineers and reveals the challengesovercome in developing a vehicle with a 220mph top speed but that is also capable of producingless than 89g of CO2 per kilometre and can even run with zero emissions for up to 60km. When Jaguar unveiled the C-X75 concept in 2010, it was the beginning of a new chapterin innovation and technological advancement that would see the car evolve from a design study to a fully working prototype in just two years.

True Love Lasts Forever – The Lincoln Town Car – Classic Luxury

If the Lincoln Towncar doesn’t hold the all time record for car fornication, thenI don’t know what does.  Think of all the proms, weddings, taxis, and horny 1990’s businessmen!. . . Actually don’t.  Today on the Car Truth Report, we delve into what made the Lincoln Towncar loved bymillions, and why you should love it too!The Lincoln Towncar, which ran from 1981 to 2011, and sold over a million units, was inour opinion, the last REAL luxury car that Lincoln ever made.  It may not seem like anything special today, but when you look at what the average interiorof a car was like in the 1990’s, it is no surprise that the Town Car was the most usedlimousine chassis of its time.  I still remember the first time that I got to ride in the back of my friends’ dadsregular length Towncar.  Even though I was only 9 or 10, and knew very little about cars at that time, I stillknew it was special.  The TownCar is something that when you try to explain it in the usual way – with stats- it doesn’t really sound that great.  Even equipped with a V8 – usually a sign of performance – the Lincoln Towncar usuallymade right around 200 horsepower. Though one could be inclined to think that the TownCar’s track record for going manyhundreds of thousands of miles may attributed to having such a under-strung engine.  Hearing of Towncars, or it’s two cousins the Grand Marquis, and Crown Vic with over500,000, or even a million miles on them is not that uncommon.  Also given the average age of someone who currently drives one of these luxury bargesis about 94, I say the less power the better. Rattling off a bunch of numbers isn’t going to get to the nectar, the essence, of whywe here at the Car Truth Report really love the Lincoln Towncar.  The real reason TownCar is truly great, is because it was built with a single, uncompromisingmission, comfort.  Modern “luxury” cars are built with a different ethos: half comfort, and halfperformance.  A perfect example of this was even seen in the Lincoln line-up with the introductionof the much sportier, closet jaguar,“ Lincoln LS in 1999.  And if you are a fan of the Lincoln LS, or just cool car knowledge in general, be sureto subscribe to our channel for future videos. You see, modern seats squeeze you with lumbar support and yadda yadda yadda, but the Towncar’sseats envelope you, like an expensive cushy recliner.  Modern “luxury” cars suspensions are tuned for cornering on racetracks like thenurburgring, while the TownCar’s air ride suspension, when it wasn’t broken, was clearlydesigned with straight lines, and potholes in mind.  There is no reason to be accelerating or turning fast when you are in a Lincoln Towncar, you will get there when you get there.  And if you have somehow made it to this point in your life, without riding in or drivinga towncar, then we here at the Car Truth Report would highly recommend it, so at the veryleast you can see what luxury used to be like, for better or for worse. Remember, if you like cool car content like this, please to subscribe by clicking thecircle me that just appeared, and hit that notify bell, so that way you can see all ourvideos right when they come out, AND so you can feel good helping out a small channeltrying to make it in this crazy YouTube world. What does Mathew McConaughey even have to do with cars anyways? Has he ever even done a car movie? Aahhh right, the Lincoln Lawyer.

World’s Greatest Drag Race 6!

(droning music)- Hi there. (speaking in foreign language)This is the sixth runningof the world’s greatest drag race. This year, the competition is tougher than ever, however, I think I’m driving the winner. This is the all new Acura NSX. And in addition to all-wheel drive, I’ve got three, count them one, two, three electric motors. What’s good about an electric motor in a drag race?Instant torque. The second I hit the gas pedal, I get all that torqueat zero RPM. And then the high horsepower gasoline engine takes over. Plus, I’ve got a quick shifting dual clutch transmission. However, there are 11 other cars that thinkthey have a shot at crossing that finish line first. Let’s meet the competition. Wearing a creamsicle inspired paint job,it’s the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S with its funny shifter. There’s the impressive-handling Chevy Camaro 1LE. There’s an eye-searing yellow Shelby Mustang GT350R. Oh, the great looking water-injected BMW M4 GTS. The track day champ, the Dodge Viper ACR. This has to be the best looking Porsche of all time,a Miami blue Carrera S. Here’s the most powerful Jaguar of all time, the F-Type SVR. The return of the Jewish racing gold AMG GTS. Godzilla makes another appearance. There’s the impressively powerful and ridiculously lightMcLaren 570S. And here’s the teutonic stud, the Audi R8 V10 Plus. And none of them stand a chance. (engines revving)This is the world’s greatest drag race six. – What Johnny doesn’t know is that I’ve gone to the officeand stolen his long term Dodge Charger Hellcat. I’m going to use it in the race. – Sup bro?- Hey, Johnny. What are you driving?- NSX. – Cool. – Yeah, you?(coughing) – Hellcat. – What?(coughing) – Hellcat. – My Hellcat? That’s not part of best driver’s car. – It has more horsepower and torquethan anything here, though. – That’s a good point. The only problem is that we got 12 guys dressed like thisand 13 cars. So I suggest we just cut the slowest one here, that being your Aston Martin. Why are you smiling? – Okay. – I just put tires on the Hellcat. I’d like two weeks out of them, okay?- Two minutes, maybe. (engine revving)Okay, so the 707 horsepower Hellcatmight have the most power here, but it’s a big heavy sedan. There’s another car with almost as much horsepower, the Viper ACR. It has just 650 horsepower, but it weighs 1,151 fewer pounds. With a manual transmission, long gearing, and really sticky tires, the Viper is a tricky carto launch properly. Get it right and you’re in store for a 3. 3 second runto 60 miles an hour. However, at higher speeds, that big wingcreates lot of drag, and that slows it down. The McLaren doesn’t have to deal with that, and thanks to its computer-controlled launch control,it’s a whole lot easier to get off the line. Unfortunately, it gives up a hundred horsepowerto the Viper. Then again, the 570S is the lightest car here, and then there’s the Audi. The R8 is 500 pounds heavier than the McLaren, but it has all-wheel drive to rocket off the line. Plus, it’s naturally aspirated V10 screams to 9000 RPM,and it’s dual clutch is one of the quickest shiftingtransmissions on the planet. Will that be enough to edge out the rest of thesehorsepower-riddled cars?Hang on and find out. (dramatic bass music)(engines revving)Alright, there’s nothing really for me to do. Just sit in my air conditioned seat, put it in drive, and fight wheel spin the entire way down the runway, because this is a big stupid sedan with 707 horsepower. – He stands no chance in that Hellcat against this, the NSX. And have I mentioned how easy it is to launch this Acura?Super easy. – Alright, five, four, three, two. (engines revving)(laughing)(engines humming)- I kicked the stuffing out of Jason in the Hellcat. – 707 horsepower and I finished in the back of the pack. – Vietnamese coffee, who knew?- [Jason] It’s all over pretty quicklywhen you have cars this fast. The NSX’s electric motors gave it a jump off the line, but the Audi blows right by on its wayto a 2. 6 second zero to 60. And the Audi stays in the lead the whole way, crossing the quarter mile marker after just 10. 6 seconds. If we’d kept going, the R8 would get passed by the McLaren, which is less than a car length behind, but traveling almost two miles an hour quicker. 101 feet and 6/10 behind the Audi is Godzilla itself, the Nissan GTR, which crosses the line just 16 feetbefore Johnny and his NSX. That’s right, Johnny, hope you’re enjoying fourth place. Next up, the Mercedes AMG GTS, followed closelyby the Jaguar F-Type SVR. Oh, but if you think the Viper’s up next, you’re wrong. It’s that insanely overachieving Porsche 911pulling an 11. 5 at a 120 miles an hour. The Viper is 12 feet behind the Porsche. Then 4/10 of a second later, here I comein a big heavy Hellcat, which didn’t win,but it did spin its tires long enoughto beat the M4 GTS by two car lengths. The Mustang Shelby GT350R was right behind the Bimmer, and then in dead last place, is the Chevy Camaro SS 1LE. That’s right, the slowest car in this group runs a 12. 4at 114. 2 miles an hour, or in other words, zero to jail in 10 seconds or less. It’s a good thing we’re on a closed course. (engines humming)Can you guys see me?’Cause it feels like I have my back to the camera. You okay?- You should have your back to the camera at first. – Okay. – Yeah, it’s okay. – Okay. – [Johnny] That’s Tony’s new technique, back to the camera. – [Camera Man] Back to camera, is it?- Put your back to camera— [Johnny] You’re doing a lot of stuffwith like people’s backs and cameras lately. – I love it. – Step to your left, Jason. – [Johnny] Really?- We all set guys? – Ah, this breeze. – [Camera Man] And then he turns around, right? He’s looking away? He’s looking away and turns to us?Perfect do it again. – [Jason] That was a little weird. – [Camera Man] Why was that weird?- My laugh was a little weird. – There was a couple flubs. – [Camera Man] One more time? Not perfect, do it again. – Yep, imperfect. – Imperfect. – Just pretend it was perfect. – [Camera Man] What do you want to have your last line be?You say nevermind, love you. – This is the world’s greatest drag race six.
